Enabling Thin and Durable Netbook Designs
Milpitas, Calif., March 23,
2010 - SanDisk
Corporation (NASDAQ: SNDK), the global leader in flash memory
cards, today announced that the 16-gigabyte (GB)1
SanDisk® pSSD™ modular SSD Gen2 was selected
by Malata
for its new PC-98905 pocket netbook computer. Malata, Wanlida Group
Co. Ltd, is a leading manufacturer of portable computers, e-book
readers and other consumer electronics.
The new Malata
pocket design netbook is compact, measuring 256X27X143mm thin with
an 8.9 inch LCD screen, making portable computing easier than ever.
Additional features include a built-in Webcam, Bluetooth, WiFi and
an 8-second boot-up option. Equipped with an Intel Atom/Pineview
processor, this device delivers enhanced performance and extended
battery life, and runs Microsoft Windows® 7 OS.
The SanDisk pSSD
modular SSD Gen 2 measures only 30mm x 50.95mm x 3.6mm and weighs 6
grams, enabling Malata's innovative pocket-size netbook design. The
SanDisk pSSD modular SSD is a key enabler of the fast-growing
netbook category of products due to its small footprint, durable
solid-state design, low power consumption and fast performance.
SanDisk pSSD modular SSD is ideally suited to the slim netbook
shell where a HDD, with its spinning disk and bulky shape, is not
an option.
"We are pleased to have been selected
by Malata as it delivers products for the growing Chinese market,"
said Doreet Oren, director product marketing, solid state drives,
SanDisk. "SanDisk adds Malata to its prestigious list of worldwide
design wins that leverage pSSD's unique features to bring small,
light and extremely portable computing devices to market."
"As consumers continue to demand
smaller and more powerful mobile computing devices, we are happy to
surpass their expectations with products like our PC-98905 pocket
netbook," said Lai Jian Rong, general manager, PC division, Malata.
"We worked closely with the SanDisk pSSD team to meet our stringent
storage and design requirements, and our stylish new model is a
result of that close collaboration."
Features and benefits
- The SanDisk pSSD drive employs the speed and reliability of the
popular SATA interface to provide a high-performance,
cost-effective storage solution for smaller devices like
netbooks.
- The SanDisk pSSD drive's light weight, compact size and low
power consumption (average power (typical)2 of
0.3W3) are well-matched for the Malata pocket design
netbook's specific requirements for a small form factor and
extended battery usage time.
- The SanDisk pSSD modular SSD helps Malata deliver greater
performance to its users. It has the added benefit of employing
nCache™ acceleration technology, a large non-volatile
write cache technology that boosts burst random write performance.
The nCache™ acceleration technology4 improves user responsiveness
and helps prevent incidences of the drive "stalling."
SanDisk pSSD Gen2 comes in a variety
of PATA and SATA interfaces and is available in capacities ranging
from 8GB to 64GB1. More information about SanDisk's pSSD
drives is available at: www.sandisk.com/pssd.
About SanDisk
SanDisk Corporation is the global
leader in flash memory cards, from research, manufacturing and
product design to consumer branding and retail distribution.
SanDisk's product portfolio includes flash memory cards for mobile
phones, digital cameras and camcorders; digital audio/video
players; USB flash drives for consumers and the enterprise;
embedded memory for mobile devices; and solid state drives for
computers. SanDisk is a
Silicon Valley-based S&P 500 company, with more than half its
sales outside the United States.
1. The logical capacity of the drive
conforms with the IDEMA HDD Specification. See www.idema.org for
details. 1GB = 1, 000,000,000 bytes. Some capacity not available
for data storage.
2. While running MobileMark and average (typical) power.
3. Assumes HIPM (Host Initiated Power Management) is enabled.
4. nCache™ acceleration technology is a large Non
Volatile Write Cache, a unique feature in SanDisk pSSD-P2 and S2
that improves random write performance and ensures an improved user
experience. Studies show that modern operating systems mostly
access the storage device using 4k access blocks. The cache is
filled during these small write commands and emptied during idle
time when the host is not accessing the drive, with no risk of data
loss. For a typical everyday use, the write performance that the
users see is the nCache (burst) high performance, and not steady
state (sustained) pSSD performance. Based on IOmeter 4K random
write test.
